Wildlife Tracking – Field Training Sessions
We’re excited to offer monthly field training sessions focusing on the tracks and sign of mammals, birds, herptiles and invertebrates. These field sessions are designed to best prepare those with an upcoming wildlife track and sign evaluation, but all are welcome)
“Dirt time” session are designed to expose you to as many tracks and sign of wildlife as possible (breadth) as well as taking time to dive deep and understand the natural history and behavior of wildlife (depth). Each field session will also include “mock evaluation” practice sessions.
Trainers: Dan Gardoqui of Lead with Nature has been training and mentoring wildlife trackers for over 20 years. He is an expert naturalist, bird language specialist and registered Maine Guide. Bill Marple has trained trackers for nearly two decades, mostly via the Tracker School and the United State Marine Corps, where he served for 8 years. Both Bill & Dan are dedicated to passing on the skills of tracking through their work.

Are you seeking a personalized, hands-on approach to learning in the wild with a skilled guide? My “Guided Wild Weekends” are unique, curated nature-connection experiences you won’t regret. Each weekend includes 2-3 days of skill-based, nature immersion in carefully chosen wild locations. Weekend options may include:
- Wildlife Tracking & Trailing – Dive deep into the science and art of detecting, interpreting and, ideally, locating wild animals without disturbance. Most weekends will have focal species (e.g. “Northwoods Tracking & Trailing: Lynx & Moose”)
- Talking with Birds – (aka “Bird Language”) is a way of conducting ourselves with the more-than-human-world combined with dynamic observation techniques to help us decipher nature’s forgotten language.
- The Way of Nature– If you’re looking for a more well-rounded experience, these wknds include an array of valuabe lessons including: wildlife ecology, foraging, wildlife track & sign, talking with birds, trees and shrubs, land-use history and more.
